Stratus Environmental has secured planning consent on behalf of SBC Renewables for the development of a 5MW solar farm at Moneystone Quarry, a former silica sand quarry near Cheadle, Staffordshire.

The solar farm extends to some 14 hectares within the wider quarry, which will be restored bringing significant biodiversity enhancements to the site through wildflower meadows and heathland that will be actively managed for the life of the solar farm.

Stratus Environmental were responsible for preparing the planning application and supporting environmental assessments and have managed the stakeholder consultations which included a public exhibition event organised as part of the community engagement exercise.

The assessments included landscape and visual impact, cultural heritage and ecology. The solar farm will power the equivalent of over 1,000 homes and offer the potential to reduce carbon dioxide production by some 52,000 tonnes over the life of the project.
