Stratus Environmental has secured a planning permission on behalf of Sirius SBC Renewables for the development of a 5MW solar farm at Stormy West Landfill Site near Bridgend.

The solar farm extends to some 11 hectares on a former limestone quarry and landfill which has been restored and is currently managed by brownfield property specialists Landcare. The re-development of the site for renewable energy production allows the former landfill site to be be put to a beneficial afteruse, reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions by some 75,000 tonnes over the life of the project.

Stratus Environmental was responsible for preparing the planning application and supporting environmental assessments and have managed the stakeholder consultations which included community engagement.

The assessments included Landscape and Visual Impact, noise, cultural heritage, and ecology. The solar farm will provide a significant opportunity to enhance the ecological biodiversity of the land on which the solar farm is to be located.
